Someya Lab

The Someya Lab is housed within the Departments of Physiology and Aging and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Florida. Our long-term goal is to define the fundamental mechanisms that govern how presynaptic mitochondria are positioned, shaped, and regulated to sustain precise hearing, such as distinguishing pitch, loudness, and timing, processes essential for communication, music perception, and environmental awareness. Building on these discoveries, I am also deeply committed to developing pharmacological strategies to preserve and restore hearing, particularly for cancer patients who experience hearing loss as a side effect of life-saving chemotherapy.
